ASCOA`s EFFORTs

The Association for Community Awareness (ASCOA), like many other organizations, recognizes the importance of addressing marine debris and plastic pollution in Cameroon. Marine debris and plastic pollution are significant environmental problems that affect marine ecosystems, wildlife, and human health and well-being. Cameroon, like many other countries, faces challenges in managing its waste, and this has contributed to the problem of marine debris and plastic pollution.

ASCOA has taken various steps to address this issue in Cameroon. For example, the organization has partnered with other stakeholders to launch campaigns to raise awareness about the negative impacts of marine debris and plastic pollution. ASCOA has also worked with local communities to promote waste management practices that reduce the amount of waste that ends up in the ocean and other water bodies. Additionally, ASCOA has supported research and data collection efforts aimed at better understanding the extent and nature of marine debris and plastic pollution in Cameroon.

ASCOA’s efforts are part of a broader global movement to address marine debris and plastic pollution. Governments, NGOs, businesses, and individuals have all recognized the urgency of taking action to reduce plastic waste and prevent it from entering the oceans. There is a growing recognition that addressing marine debris and plastic pollution requires a multi-faceted approach that involves a range of stakeholders and strategies, from waste reduction and recycling to policy changes and education campaigns.

Important Of Establishing Beach Cleanup Day in Cameroon

Non-biodegradable waste such as plastics and other heavier debris wash off at the coastline, settle at the seabed, and destroy marine habitats. An estimated 18 billion pounds of plastic waste flows into the world’s oceans yearly. This figure is expected to triple in the next 20 years if effective strategies are not implemented.

Cameroon, hosts a unique and rich coastal ecosystem, and ASCOA has been working to address plastic pollution and marine littering since our foundation in 2014. A national beach clean-up day offers an opportunity to scale up our existing beach clean-up projects and increase awareness of and engagement with marine pollution. For this reason, the Association for Community Awareness takes it to itself to clean carryout cleanup in the 402 kilometers of Coastline in Cameroon with a special focus on the coastline cities.

The pollution on beaches can also pose health and safety risks to humans who use them for recreational purposes. Plastics and other waste can cause injury, and can also contaminate the water and sand, leading to illnesses.

Cameroon is a country with many beautiful beaches that attract tourists from around the world. A clean beach is more attractive to tourists, which can boost tourism and the local economy.

Overall, establishing a Cameroon Beach Cleanup Day would help to protect the environment, promote community involvement, and boost tourism, making it an important initiative for the country.

Why ASCOA’s Beach Cleanup Days are the Perfect Opportunity for Your Brand

Climate change is a pressing issue all around the world, especially as it threatens marine and human health alike. As such, it is no surprise that environmental campaigns are increasing in popularity and reach. What may come as a surprise, however, is that joining such environmental campaigns can be very beneficial for brands and corporations. One example of these campaigns is ASCOA’s Beach Cleanup Day in Cameroon, where volunteers gather to collect plastic items from local coastlines. If a brand chooses to participate in and sponsor such an event, it would be a prime opportunity for it to fulfill its corporate social responsibility, enhance its reputation, and gain new customers. This article will describe how brands and corporations would benefit from supporting ASCOA’s Beach Cleanup Initiatives.

For background, ASCOA organizes and leads a yearly Beach Cleanup Day in Cameroon. In the past few years, they have collected over 1.4 million plastic items from coastlines and built a team of thousands of dedicated volunteers.[1] Additionally, ASCOA’s commitment to beach cleanups has gotten the organization a seat at the 2020 United Nations Ocean Conference, and a partnership with the Global Waste Cleaning Network based in the UK.[2] With no doubt, ASCOA has been successful in its efforts to raise environmental awareness.

With that being said, collaborating with a wide-reaching organization such as ASCOA may allow the sponsoring brand’s involvement to be highlighted through press releases and on social media, within Cameroon but also internationally. This media attention is beneficial for brands. After all, it increases their publicity and brand awareness, which leads to the brand having higher customer acquisition, because new people have been exposed to the brand and more people want to support an environmentally-conscious corporation.

At Beach Cleanup Days, there is also a unique networking opportunity. A brand can display its products and services, build positive relationships with the local community, and foster employee engagement. This all contributes to higher revenue and loyalty in the future, as the increased visibility of products and services combined with the image of a socially responsible organization can lead to new customer acquisition, and promote a sense of pride and trust within employees.

As well, a brand can sponsor and partner with ASCOA for its Beach Cleanup Days to fulfill its Corporate Social Responsibility. A brand’s reputation and dedication to social causes matter to customers, and this is a great opportunity to demonstrate your commitment. By helping ASCOA, you would support their mission of cleaning up coastlines, preserving marine life, and maintaining the beauty of Cameroon’s beaches, fulfilling your duty and improving your connections.

In conclusion, collaborating with ASCOA on their Beach Cleanup Days can provide some advantages for brands, such as enhancing their image, increasing their publicity, and making a positive environmental impact. Therefore, it would be a smart marketing strategy for brands to consider supporting ASCOA in its innovative efforts to raise environmental awareness in Cameroon.
